Writer’s Prompts – Ideas for Writing

If you’ve never used prompts for writing have a go. They are a great way to get yourself going. If you’ve never written before they are a great way to build confidence and show yourself you can do it. If you’re still prevaricating then you need to come on a retreat and do it along with others ! You can do it.

Here are a few ideas. I suggest you take them one at a time. Don’t choose. Just start from number one and work your way through. Do at least one every day. Make writing a habit. The way to improve, to find your voice, to see what time of writing you like best is to write.

Perhaps one day choose a story, the next a poem or a diary entry, another a factual article. Whatever you do – write. Something, anything. It won’t be perfect. It will need further work. But don’t worry about those things, just write. Get those thoughts down, get the ideas flowing then later you can add, correct and improve it.

Or as Hemingway said ” … write drunk, edit sober.”
